Event Tracking Reference

This is a reference of all events currently tracked by Flite ads. There are two event categories described here:

  • Ad events: These are global events tracked by the ad as a whole.
  • Component events: These events are tracked by individual components; each component has a unique set of events that it tracks.

Ad events

These are global events tracked by the ad as a whole.

Ad Load

DescriptionTypeSubtypeModeDetailEvent Data
Ad Loaded Impression Full | Limited | Backup N/A Impression
Component Log Notation Update N/A Component List components:[{regGuid:"", compKey:""}, {regGuid:"", compKey:""}, ...

When the ad loads for the first time, the Ad Loaded Impression is always tracked automatically. The Impression's Subtype depends on the user's environment:

  • Full: An impression that loads the Flash ad, and is able to handle expansions.
  • Limited: An impression that loads a Flash ad in an environment where expansions cannot be handled.
  • Backup: An impression that loads a backup image instead of the Flash ad, because the user's environment does not support Flash.

When the ad is loaded, it also tracks a Component Log event as a Notation under the Impression's context. This event's Event Data field contains an array of all the layers in your ad. Each layer is identified by the layer ID and the ID of the component populating that layer.

  • regGuid: This is the component ID. Each component has a 32-digit hexadecimal global unique identifier (GUID).
  • compKey: This is the layer ID. Each layer in your ad has an 8-character ID that is unique within your ad.

The Event Data field may look something like this:

[{"regGuid":"1c7eb9f6-71e9-4f2a-af2f-8d1885b4b4e9","compKey":"h176aek3"},{"regGuid":"1234798d-f7ed-4a86-8d1c-ff4e02f729bf","compKey":"h0982kd0"},{"regGuid":"b5bc46fcc-cac6-4112-ad2b-931b91adad47","compKey":"h082dsk1"}]

Ad Hover

DescriptionTypeSubtypeModeDetailEvent Data
Initial Hover Interaction Hover Rollover 1 Second Rollover
Continued Hover Notation Update N/A 1 Second Rollover
End Hover Notation Update N/A Rollout

The Hover Interaction happens when the user's mouse pointer hovers over the ad for at least 1 second. This is a complex event that has two additional Notation events associated with it. These Notations will always list the original Interaction as their context. Below, we go over the details of when each of these is logged.

  • Initial Hover: This is recorded when the user's mouse pointer rolls over the ad from outside the ad, and stays over the ad for 1 second.
  • Continued Hover: This is recorded when the user's mouse pointer continues to hover over the ad, but switches to a different layer. A new Continued Hover is recorded every time the hover switches layers without exiting the ad.
  • End Hover: This is recorded when the mouse pointer rolls out of the ad, effectively ending the Hover event. If the mouse pointer rolls back over the ad after an End Hover Notation, then a new Initial Hover will be recorded.

Child Ad Open/Close

DescriptionTypeSubtypeModeDetailEvent Data
Child Ad Load Content View N/A Subsequent ad loaded
Child Ad Close Button Interaction Select Click Subsequent ad close
Child Ad Close Mouse Out Interaction Deselect Rollout Subsequent ad closed

This is used for expandables and lightboxes. A more thorough explanation of when each event is logged can be found below.

  • Child Ad Load: This event is logged when an expansion unit (overlay or lightbox) is opened from the already loaded base ad.
  • Child Ad Close Button: This is recorded when the user closes the expansion unit by clicking its Close button.
  • Child Ad Close Mouse Out: Some expansion units close when you stop mousing over them. This event is recorded when an expansion unit is closed in this manner.

Component events

Each Flite ad component tracks its own events. These are listed in each individual component’s documentation. For events tracked by Flite’s built-in components, see each individual component’s documentation in the Flite Ad Studio 3 Help.
