A segment can allow users to do the following:\n * Target a specific site ID, media placement ID, or Audience ID that is captured in our ad tag via a third-party ad serving macro (e.g. DFA, DFP). Users can also include a package of sites or media placements in a segment.\n * Set a dayparting schedule or specific date and time to display ads. Users can also use the date function in the same segment that contains site, media placement, or audience ID(s).\n\nBelow are the options a user will see when clicking on *+ Add Segment*: \n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://www.filepicker.io/api/file/M7FRxspSpCxvZlbTi5WI\",\n \"Screen+Shot+2015-09-02+at+3.38.38+PM.png\",\n \"506\",\n \"223\",\n \"#b2b187\",\n \"\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\n## Do segments include any type of targeting by geography, demographics, etc.?\nSegments do not provide that functionality as those settings should be set in your ad server (DFA, DFP). Segments can be seen as a way for users to group multiple sites or media placements to display similar ads across one segment. Segments can also help users who are dealing with media packages and need to group media placements into one bucket.\n[block:api-header]\n{\n \"type\": \"basic\",\n \"title\": \"Adding Campaign Segments\"\n}\n[/block]\nUsers have the ability to create different segments in the *Model* tab. Below are the various ways segments can be added:\n\n * by Date (specific date ranges)\n * by Departing (ad scheduling on a re-occuring cadence)\n * by Site\n * by Media Placements\n * by Audience Targets\n * Intersections or combinations of the 5 criteria listed above.\n\nBelow is a reference for Adding a Segment to your model based on logical criteria/targeting approach.\n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://www.filepicker.io/api/file/cHZuSJzOSFcB6so4gaDr\",\n \"CS-segment+2.gif\",\n \"712\",\n \"408\",\n \"#547086\",\n \"\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\nIn this screenshot, you can see how each segment would look if you were to add them individually:\n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://www.filepicker.io/api/file/krhyvvIyT5N7F84bX6aA\",\n \"Screen+Shot+2015-09-02+at+3.48.29+PM.png\",\n \"195\",\n \"852\",\n \"#59837c\",\n \"\"\n ],\n \"sizing\": \"original\"\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\n\n[block:api-header]\n{\n \"type\": \"basic\",\n \"title\": \"Adding a Site or Media Placement to a Segment\"\n}\n[/block]\nOnce you have added a site or media placement segment into the grid, you will need to select which sites or media placements you would like to include from the *Elements* section:\n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://www.filepicker.io/api/file/KqZrN56Sca59zx21PSPx\",\n \"Drag+Sites+and+MPs+into+Segments.png\",\n \"605\",\n \"447\",\n \"#bea579\",\n \"\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\nUsers can select one or many elements to be dragged into a segment. In most cases, a group of media placements are used for a segment, but there are cases where users would like to use the same ad(s) across an entire Site.\n[block:callout]\n{\n \"type\": \"success\",\n \"title\": \"TIP\",\n \"body\": \"If you would like to drag more than one media placement or site into a segment, there is the ability to \\\"multi-select\\\" within the Campaign Studio UI by utilizing *Shift+Click* when selecting the intended criteria (this same *shift+click* multi-select utility applies to the bulk section of ad units when dragging and dropping).\"\n}\n[/block]\n\n[block:api-header]\n{\n \"type\": \"basic\",\n \"title\": \"Adding a to a Segment\"\n}\n[/block]\nSimilar to adding site and media placement segments, users can add a date range into a segment or combine it with a site or media placement. When creating a date segment the user will see a few options where they will need to set the following: \n * Start Date\n * Start Time\n * End Date\n * End Time\n * Time Zone (default is set to EST) \n\n Below is how a segment that only includes Date would appear:\n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://www.filepicker.io/api/file/ksavUbD4QmCqpKmwVN4k\",\n \"Date+Segment.png\",\n \"248\",\n \"351\",\n \"#628194\",\n \"\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\n\nBelow is how a segment would display if it contained both a Date and Site:\n[block:image]\n{\n \"images\": [\n {\n \"image\": [\n \"https://www.filepicker.io/api/file/s8uHjUPTK6392hkiCzKA\",\n \"Date+-+Site+segment.png\",\n \"246\",\n \"391\",\n \"#617e95\",\n \"\"\n ]\n }\n ]\n}\n[/block]\nWhen using both criteria in a segment, a user will be able to target specific Sites and a date range when the ads should be displayed. This allows users to create segments on future dates and avoid having to make the changes the day of.","excerpt":"","slug":"campaign-studio-managing-segments","type":"basic","title":"Managing Segments"}
