To access the Placement Manager, click the *Manage* button in the Traffic Module’s Control Bar.\n\nPlacement Manager functionality includes creating new placements, configuring placement settings, generating ad tags, and configuring third-party tracking. The Placement Manager has two tabs:\n  * [**Tag Defaults:**](#tag-defaults) Allows you to create default settings for how this ad will be displayed and tracked in production. You can override some of these defaults on a per-placement basis in the Placements tab.\n  * [**Placements:**](#placements) Allows you to create new placements, edit placement settings, add third-party tracking, and generate ad tags for each placement. \n[block:api-header]\n{\n  \"type\": \"basic\",\n  \"title\": \"Tag Defaults\"\n}\n[/block]\nThe *Tag Defaults* tab allows you to set default settings for flighting your ad; in particular, these settings control how your ad will be displayed and tracked in production. You can override some of these settings on a per-placement basis in the Placements tab.\n\nA *Save Traffic Settings* button appears in the toolbar when the *Tag Defaults* tab is active. Click the button to save all the settings in this tab, and publish them. The new settings will become live immediately. This is equivalent to clicking the *Publish* button in the Edit Module.\n\n\n## Tracking Defaults\nThis section contains settings for how the ad will be tracked. These settings can be overridden on a per-placement basis in the Placements tab.\n  * **Click Tracking URL:** Specifies the URLs of any additional tracking servers you want to use to track clickthroughs in your ad. Flite will always automatically track clickthroughs as well. Click the :fa-plus-circle: button to add a new URL, and the :fa-minus-circle: button to remove the last URL on the list.\n  * **Tracking Pixel:** Specifies the URLs of any additional tracking servers you want to use to track impressions in your ad. Flite will always automatically track impressions as well. Click the :fa-plus-circle: button to add a new URL, and the :fa-minus-circle: button to remove the last URL on the list.\n\n## Advanced\n**Links:** Determines how clickthrough links are opened in this ad.\n  * **Layer defaults:** Follow the default clickthrough settings on each individual layer.\n  * **New window:** Open all clickthrough links in a new browser window or tab. This will override all layer defaults, except opening a URL in a lightbox.\n  * **Same window:** Open all clickthrough links in the same browser window or tab. This will override all layer defaults, except opening a URL in a lightbox.\n* **Z-index:** For expandable ads, this sets the z-index on the expansion stage(s) in your ad. The default z-index is 4001, but this often needs to be changed for specific publisher sites. \n[block:api-header]\n{\n  \"type\": \"basic\",\n  \"title\": \"Placements\"\n}\n[/block]\nThe *Placements* tab allows you to add and remove ad placements. An ad placement in our system is a version of your ad that has a unique set of parameters. These parameters can control the placements look and feel, its tracking properties, the content that is displayed, or anything else. You can create different placements to target different audiences, to run on different websites, to do A/B testing, etc. Each placement has a unique ID, which is used when creating an ad tag for that placement.\n\nSee Placement Settings page for more detail on editing individual placement settings. \nSee Generate Tags page for more detail on generating ad tags for your settings.\n\n**Make New:** This button allows you to create a new placement of this ad. The new placement immediately appears in *Placements* list with a default name.\n\n**Placements list:** The Placements list contains the name of each placement, the date on which it was last updated, and a checkbox to be used in conjunction with the *Generate Tags* button. Click on a placement to select it. This will expand the placement block to reveal the placement settings you can edit, and also display the placement in the preview panel.\n\n**Generate Tags:** This button allows you to generate ad tags for one or several of your placements. Click the checkboxes next to the placements for which you want to generate tags, and then click this button to launch the Generate Tags dialog box.\n\n**Save All:** This button publishes the changes made to all your settings. Make sure to do this before navigating away from the Traffic Module -- your changes will not save otherwise! By the same token, when you save the changes will become live immediately, so be careful when doing this.\n\n##  Preview Panel\nThe Preview Panel for this tab displays the selected placement. Select a placement by clicking it in the *Placements* list.\n[block:api-header]\n{\n  \"type\": \"basic\",\n  \"title\": \"Placement Settings\"\n}\n[/block]\nThese are the settings you can change for each ad placement. Each placement has its own separate Placement Settings section, which you can edit independently from the other settings. This allows you to run the same ad with different settings for different placements.\n\n**Name:** The name of this placement. This is the name by which this placement is identified in the Placements tab.\n\n**Placement ID (read-only):** The hexadecimal 32-digit Global Unique Identifier (GUID) for this placement. This is a read-only value assigned by the system, but can be a very useful piece of information to know since it uniquely identifies the placement.\n\n**Click Tracking:** The third-party click tracking URL(s) for this placement. There will always be at least one text field here. If multiple click tracking URLs have been set up in the Tag Defaults tab, a separate text field will appear for each of those URLs. You can override them here on a per-placement basis. Click tracking URLs do not support replacement macros.\n\n**Tracking Pixel:** The impression tracking URL(s) (1x1s) for this placement. There will always be at least one text field here. If multiple tracking pixel URLs were set up in the Tag Defaults tab, a separate text field will appear for each of those URLs. You can override them here on a per-placement basis. Tracking pixel URLs support some cache busting macros, so that the pixel is fired even if the user already saw the ad previously and has the URL cached on their browser. See here for details.\n\n**Open Links:** Indicates where clickthrough links from this placement will open. This is typically driven by site requirements. The options are:\n\n**Tag Defaults:** Use the value set in the Tag Defaults tab.\n  * **Layer Defaults:** Use the values set up in the creative; this may vary from layer to layer.\n    * **New window:** Open all clickthrough links in a new browser window or tab.\n    * **Same window:** Open all clickthrough links in the same browser window or tab.\n  * **Z-Index:** For expandable ads, override the z-index CSS property on the expansion stage(s) in your ad. The default z-index is 4001, but this often needs to be changed for specific publisher sites.\n\n**Custom Placement Settings:** There will be additional settings corresponding to each placement setting created using the Variables Panel in the Edit Module. The default values for each setting will be the ones you set up in the Edit Module, but you can override them here. These custom placement settings allow you to change the ad’s look, behavior, and content from placement to placement.\n\n**Permalink:** A *Preview Placement* link that opens a preview page for this placement in a new browser window. Each ad placement has its own preview page.\n\n**Backup Image:** Choose *Tag Defaults* to use the backup image and clickthrough settings from the Tag Defaults tab. Choose *Custom…* to override the default settings for this placement.\n\nThere are two icons in the upper right corner of your placement settings. Click the :fa-archive: button to archive a placement. Click the :fa-files-o: button to duplicate the last saved version of this placement.\n[block:api-header]\n{\n  \"type\": \"basic\",\n  \"title\": \"Generating Tags\"\n}\n[/block]\nThe Generate Tags dialog box allows you to generate new tag(s) for the selected placement(s) of your ad. The tags can then be deployed on any site to have the appropriate placement appear on that site.\n\nConfigure your tag in the *Tag Settings* section of the dialog. Mouse over various settings to see corresponding help text in the *Description* section. Once you are done configuring settings, click the *Generate Tags* button in the *Tags* section to generate your tags. Finally, click the Copy to Clipboard button in the bottom right to copy the tag code to your clipboard, and then paste it wherever it needs to go (site, ad server, etc.).\n\nBelow is an overview of all settings available to you when generating ad tags.\n[block:callout]\n{\n  \"type\": \"info\",\n  \"body\": \"If you are using an ad blocker, please turn it off when using the Generate Tags dialog. The dialog may not work properly when the ad blocker is on.\",\n  \"title\": \"NOTE\"\n}\n[/block]\n## Common Settings\nConfigure the most common ad tag settings in this section, which appears at the top of the dialog box.\n\n**Ad Server**\nSelect the ad server where you plan to run this ad tag. Doing so will generate the tag most appropriate for the selected ad server, and pre-populate the click tracking macro fields with the correct macro for the selected ad server. Select \"None\" if not using an ad server, and \"Other\" if your server is not in the list.\n\n**Encoded Click Tracking Macro**\nDynamically specify click tracking URLs at the time your ad is served using this field. This macro should substitute a URL-encoded click tracking URL. Each ad server uses different syntax for click tracking macros; if your ad server is not on our list, please consult your ad server's documentation for the correct syntax.\n\n**Tracking Pixel Macro**\nUse this field to dynamically specify a tracking pixel at the time your ad is served. This field can contain an ad server macro replaced by a tracking pixel (e.g. %i). It can also contain a third-party tracking pixel URL with a query string containing macro replacements like site ID (e.g. http://www.mytracker.com/trackingpixel.gif?site_id=%esid).\n\n**Tag Type**\nDepending on the ad server you are using, different types of ad tags may be appropriate.\n  * **Default:** For use with mobile web advertising services trafficked in a browser.\n  * **MRAID:** In-application and mobile ad servers that support the Mobile Rich Media Ad Interface Definitions Version 1.0 (MRAID) specification. Note that the following actions are not supported: Call Phone Number, Send Email and Create Calendar Event.\n  * **AdMob:** For use with ad servers that support the AdMob API. \n\n## Advanced Settings\nConfigure advanced ad tag settings here.\n\n**Unencoded Click Tracking Macro**\nThis field only appears when the \"Pub-side file required for expandables\" box is unchecked. Use it to dynamically specify click tracking URLs at the time your ad is served. This macro should substitute a (non-URL-encoded) click tracking URL. Each ad server uses different syntax for click tracking macros; if your ad server is not on our list, please consult your ad server's documentation for the correct syntax. \n\n**Render Mode**\nSelect how you want the ad to be displayed on your page.\n  * **Inline:** At the location where the tag is placed.\n  * **Pinned Footer:** Pinned to the bottom of your browser window.\n  * **Interstitial:** In a lightbox on page load.\n \n**Import Placement Data (only for DFA & DFP)**\nThis checkbox appears only when you select DFA or DFP from the Ad Server dropdown. When the box is checked, the tag will use macros to import ad server placement data, including advertiser ID (%eadv), order ID (%ebuy), site ID (%esid), placement ID (%epid), line item ID (%eaid), and creative ID (%ecid)\n\n**Automatic HTTPS Support**\nWhen this box is checked, the tag will work on both secure (HTTPS) and non-secure (HTTP) sites, automatically detecting the environment and making appropriate requests. We recommend always using this setting for ads running in production. However, this auto-detection will only work for page addresses that begin with \"http://\" or \"https://\". Please uncheck this box when running an ad tag on any other type of page. This will typically only be the case when testing a tag on your local machine, where the page address  may start with \"file:///\" or \"C:/\".\n\n## Generating ad tags\nTo create ad tags for one or several placements, do the following:\n1. In Design Studio HTML5’s Traffic Module, click the *Placements* button in the upper left.\n2. Check the checkboxes to the left of the placements for which you want to generate ad tags. Make sure all of these placements have been saved.\n3. Click the *Generate Tags* button at the bottom. The Generate Tags lightbox launches.\n4. Under *Tag Settings*, configure the desired settings.\n5. Click *Generate Tags* in the *Tags* section. A text area will appear on the right side of the lightbox with an ad tag of the specified type for each selected placement. \n6. Use the *Copy to Clipboard* button in the lower-right corner of the dialog box to copy the tags and then paste them wherever needed.\n[block:image]\n{\n  \"images\": [\n    {\n      \"image\": [\n        \"https://www.filepicker.io/api/file/9VP9x5FyQqyPLH2xXs33\",\n        \"touch-ad-tags.png\",\n        \"680\",\n        \"398\",\n        \"#3d7698\",\n        \"\"\n      ]\n    }\n  ]\n}\n[/block]","excerpt":"","slug":"design-studio-managing-placements","type":"basic","title":"Managing Placements"}

You can override some of these defaults on a per-placement basis in the Placements tab. * [**Placements:**](#placements) Allows you to create new placements, edit placement settings, add third-party tracking, and generate ad tags for each placement. [block:api-header] { "type": "basic", "title": "Tag Defaults" } [/block] The *Tag Defaults* tab allows you to set default settings for flighting your ad; in particular, these settings control how your ad will be displayed and tracked in production. You can override some of these settings on a per-placement basis in the Placements tab. A *Save Traffic Settings* button appears in the toolbar when the *Tag Defaults* tab is active. Click the button to save all the settings in this tab, and publish them. The new settings will become live immediately. This is equivalent to clicking the *Publish* button in the Edit Module. ## Tracking Defaults This section contains settings for how the ad will be tracked. These settings can be overridden on a per-placement basis in the Placements tab. * **Click Tracking URL:** Specifies the URLs of any additional tracking servers you want to use to track clickthroughs in your ad. Flite will always automatically track clickthroughs as well. Doing so will generate the tag most appropriate for the selected ad server, and pre-populate the click tracking macro fields with the correct macro for the selected ad server. Select "None" if not using an ad server, and "Other" if your server is not in the list. **Encoded Click Tracking Macro** Dynamically specify click tracking URLs at the time your ad is served using this field. This macro should substitute a URL-encoded click tracking URL. Each ad server uses different syntax for click tracking macros; if your ad server is not on our list, please consult your ad server's documentation for the correct syntax. **Tracking Pixel Macro** Use this field to dynamically specify a tracking pixel at the time your ad is served. This field can contain an ad server macro replaced by a tracking pixel (e.g. %i). It can also contain a third-party tracking pixel URL with a query string containing macro replacements like site ID (e.g. http://www.mytracker.com/trackingpixel.gif?site_id=%esid). **Tag Type** Depending on the ad server you are using, different types of ad tags may be appropriate. * **Default:** For use with mobile web advertising services trafficked in a browser. * **MRAID:** In-application and mobile ad servers that support the Mobile Rich Media Ad Interface Definitions Version 1.0 (MRAID) specification. Use it to dynamically specify click tracking URLs at the time your ad is served. This macro should substitute a (non-URL-encoded) click tracking URL. Each ad server uses different syntax for click tracking macros; if your ad server is not on our list, please consult your ad server's documentation for the correct syntax. **Render Mode** Select how you want the ad to be displayed on your page. * **Inline:** At the location where the tag is placed. * **Pinned Footer:** Pinned to the bottom of your browser window. * **Interstitial:** In a lightbox on page load. **Import Placement Data (only for DFA & DFP)** This checkbox appears only when you select DFA or DFP from the Ad Server dropdown. When the box is checked, the tag will use macros to import ad server placement data, including advertiser ID (%eadv), order ID (%ebuy), site ID (%esid), placement ID (%epid), line item ID (%eaid), and creative ID (%ecid) **Automatic HTTPS Support** When this box is checked, the tag will work on both secure (HTTPS) and non-secure (HTTP) sites, automatically detecting the environment and making appropriate requests. We recommend always using this setting for ads running in production. However, this auto-detection will only work for page addresses that begin with "http://" or "https://". Please uncheck this box when running an ad tag on any other type of page. This will typically only be the case when testing a tag on your local machine, where the page address may start with "file:///" or "C:/". ## Generating ad tags To create ad tags for one or several placements, do the following: 1. In Design Studio HTML5’s Traffic Module, click the *Placements* button in the upper left. 2. Check the checkboxes to the left of the placements for which you want to generate ad tags. Make sure all of these placements have been saved. 3. Click the *Generate Tags* button at the bottom. The Generate Tags lightbox launches. 4. Under *Tag Settings*, configure the desired settings. 5. Click *Generate Tags* in the *Tags* section. A text area will appear on the right side of the lightbox with an ad tag of the specified type for each selected placement. 6. Use the *Copy to Clipboard* button in the lower-right corner of the dialog box to copy the tags and then paste them wherever needed.
